That Old Rugged Tree

On that old rugged tree of Calvary
Christ died for you and me,
And His precious blood still has the power…
To set the captive free.

He could have called the angels from Heaven
To save Him from the Cross,
But He willingly chose to bear our sins…
Giving His life for the lost.

What wondrous love flowing down from above
As He took our penalty,
All who receive Him as Saviour and Lord…
Cling to that old rugged tree.

Yes, we cling to the Cross of Calvary
So despised by this world,
There is no other place we’d rather be…
Such rich blessings unfurl.

Let us humble ourselves and worship Him
Who fills our hearts with glee,
Proclaiming the truth of our risen King…
And That Old Rugged Tree.

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree,
that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness:
by whose stripes ye were healed.”
(1 Pet 2:24)
